Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the School of Languages and Literatures (African Languages Section

The School of Languages and Literatures invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.

The Requirements
 
Lecturer
At least a Masters’ degree in African languages or cognate discipline. Candidates need to be registered for a PhD at the time of applying and are required to be nearing completion of their PhD within the three-year probationary period. In addition, candidates are required to have an ability to teach isiXhosa second language and isiXhosa literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (both as a second language and home language). 

Senior Lecturer

A PhD in African languages or cognate discipline with experience in teaching isiXhosa second language and isiXhosa literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (both as a second language and home language).

Selection Process:

Remuneration per annum:

Lecturer
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:                          R600,141.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):             R782,346.00

 

Senior Lecturer
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:                          R742,411.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):             R958,719.00

All applications will be treated in strict confidence. This post is advertised as a permanent post, but the University may opt to appoint on a fixed-term contract of not less than three years. The University reserves the right not to proceed with the filling of the post.
