Readvertising: Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in the History Department
(2 positions)

Main Objectives

All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level. 

The Requirements

Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor
A PhD in African History or the History of the African diaspora with experience in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: 

For post 1: History of Science and Technology Studies OR Marginalisation, Inequality and Redress.  
For post 2: Socio-Economic and Environmental History of Africa.

In both instances, the following would be an added advantage: 
- historians with a background in archival studies or archival science; 
- expertise in Eastern Cape history;
- research and teaching expertise in gender, sexuality and women histories.

Selection Process: 
  • Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the interview date.
  • At the interview stage, shortlisted candidates will be expected to do a short presentation. 


Remuneration per annum:

Senior Lecturer 

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:              R  742,411.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R  960,928.00


Associate Professor

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:               R   887,318.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):  R1,141,001.00

 

Professor

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:               R1,086,915.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):  R1,389,037.00
