Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Grade L/SL)

Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy

The Faculty of Pharmacy invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives

All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research) and community engagement, and recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels and contribute to their profession.

The Requirements

LECTURER

  • BPharm and MSc degree in Biochemistry or a related field.
  • Currently registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
  • Tutoring or facilitation experience is required—some experience using a tertiary learning management system interface to enhance students’ experience and engagement.
  • Ability to teach in the following disciplinary areas: Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Experience in teaching other relevant and /or related areas of Pharmacy will be an advantage.
  • No research supervision is required.
  • No emerging national profile in the discipline is required.
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

SENIOR LECTURER

  • BPharm and PhD degree in Biochemistry or a related field. Candidates with a BPharm and MSc (Pharm) degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or MPharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field, with progress being made towards a PhD, will be considered. As a guide, progress implies intended submission within the next 12 months. PLUS Experience: Usually 7 to 10 years of teaching experience OR 7 to 10 years of professional experience in a health or medicines-related field.
  • Currently registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is required—proficiency in customising and optimising a tertiary learning management system interface to enhance students’ experience and engagement.
  • Experience teaching in the following disciplinary areas: Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Experience in teaching other relevant and /or related areas of Pharmacy will be an advantage.
  • Good research supervision of at least a Master’s degree is required.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:                          R633 149

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):             R826 949

Remuneration per annum (Grade SL):

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:                          R783 243

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):             R1 013 469
